Physical Education Highlights

Welcome to the JES Physical Education webpage!

We are so excited to see all of our returning students again this year as well as meet our newest learners!

Physical Education at Jordan Elementary is all about fitness, fun, and learning new skills.

What to Wear

We do not have uniforms for Physical Education class, but we do want you to wear a few certain things:

  • Wear shoes that allow you to run, jump, and play. Boots, sandals, cleats, crocs, heelies, spinners, and flip flops are NOT ALLOWED. If you choose to wear these, you will be assigned a pair of shoes to borrow for the day. If improper footwear becomes a pattern, parents will be notified.
  • Wear clothes that allow you to sit, bend, crouch, run, jump, spin, roll, and even be upside-down while remaining covered and comfortable. (Dresses and skirts are not good choices for P.E. class.)
  • During the fall and spring, we like to go outside frequently! It can be cool in the mornings, so keeping a sweatshirt in your locker is a good idea. The Phy. Ed. department will decide whether we go outside on the morning of class. Our temperature cutoff for regular units is 35 degrees. During winter, we will have a snowshoe unit. Teachers will decide whether to go outside for those two sessions. It can be very cold in the mornings on these January and February dates, so students should come with full winter gear (hat, coat, gloves, snowpants, and boots).
  • In winter, please make an extra effort to remind your child to bring tennis shoes in their backpack if they wear boots to and from school.

Physical Education Curriculum

Every day, JES Physical Education teachers use the National Standards for K-12 Physical Education to help students become physically literate persons. Being physically literate is a fancy way of saying that you know how to be and enjoy being physically active. Learning to be physically literate in physical education class now will help students continue to be healthy and active when they grow up. (SHAPE AMERICA)
